If you want a burr grinder that is reasonable in price (still affordable by modern day families) and built as if it was to be used in a cafe serving thousands of customers, and where speed and accuracy can literally mean the life and death of your business.

The Rancillo Rocky is probably the closest it’ll get.

There are 2 versions of the Rancillo Rocky Espresso Grinder.

Doser and Doserless!

So, how would you choose between these two versions.

First, you must understand it’s operation and then decide on your needs.

Normally, doser grinders are mainly used by cafes and coffee shops as it pours or dispense the right amount of ground coffee (usually 1 shot of espresso) whenever you pull the lever. This is really effective, especially if you’re running a shop where you’ll want pre-measured amount of coffee ground to be dispense and use on your espresso machine quickly.

The only downside of using a doser grinder is that if you’re not capable of consuming a lot of espresso within a short period, it’ll leave some coffee grounds inside the chute which can be considered as a waste, as ground coffee usually goes stale fairly quickly.

This is mainly because that in order for the dosing to work properly, the chamber must be full. Therefore the doser version is more suitable for a high-consumption environment, unless of course you don’t mind wasting a bit of ground or not too fussy about the taste of the outcome if it goes stale.

The doserless on the other hand is more suitable for home use as the whole operation usually requires the user to grind just the right amount. The grinder will funnel the ground coffee into the chute and then from the chute into a portafilter, holder or a container.

The trick to using doserless is that you will have to master the right amount of quantity to grind from beans to ground as you’re the one in control as to how strong your shot of espresso is. Normally, users will tend to overfill their holder and then level so that it’ll not be wasted and that it’ll fit perfectly into your espresso, turkish or press machine.

Now that you understand the difference between the two. You can decide for yourself as in which ones you should get.

Let’s take a look at some of it’s features!
